Using grounds of velvet; layers of dyes, inks and pastels are built up to enrich the surface, adding depth and exploring how light falls on linear forms. A highlight of gold is sometimes added to create an optical dimension.

Further surface embellishment is adding using fleece fibres, fabric and yarn to build up colour and textural layers.
