Sarah White

Artist and Textile Artist

About me

Living in the Cotswolds; my paintings are distant, tranquil observations of land, sky and water. Using grounds of velvet, I use diffused layers of dyes, inks and pastels to enrich the surface, adding depth and exploring how light falls on linear forms in the landscape throughout the changing seasons. I layer surfaces with fleece and fabric to create textural layers in response to the landscape. Some of my studies are embellished with a highlight of gold to add to the optical richness.

I handprint and create a collection of velvet scarves from my observational drawings exploring transparency and outline. I specialise in Devore printing  onto luxurious silk/viscose velvet. My striking abstract geometrics create a modern twist from shapes inspired by landscape. I have a collection of my scarves in the New Brewery Arts, Cirencester. I sell my work at craft shows and exhibitions.

I explore my observations of still life objects and landscape through my collagraph prints, cutting away surfaces or creating texture layers to make printing plates. In addition to these, I use dry point techniques and Lino cuts to create print editions and unique greeting cards.

I am a member of Stroud Artists Cooperative and have enjoyed meeting and exhibiting with fellow artists, and I have a Textile degree and an Industry masters. I had a career in the fashion industry and have sold textile designs internationally for both fashion and interiors.
